A juicer is a tool for separating juice from fruits, herbs, leafy greens and other types of vegetables from its pulp in a process called juicing. In separating the pulp, juicers concentrate the nutrition naturally present in fruits and vegetables and allows the body to more easily absorb the nutrition than digesting the solid produce. The use of juicers also makes it easier to consume more raw produce.

Reamers are used for squeezing juice from citrus such as grapefruits, lemons, limes, and oranges. Juice is extracted by pressing or grinding a halved citrus along a juicer's ridged conical center and discarding the rind. Some reamers are stationary and requiring a user to press and turn the fruit, while others are electrical, automatically turning the ridged center when fruit is pressed upon. This style of juicer is typically the cheapest.
A centrifugal juicer cuts up the fruit or vegetable with a flat cutting blade. It then spins the produce at a high speed (3,000-14,000 RPMs) to separate the juice from the pulp. Although this style of juicer can juice most types of juiceable produce, compared to a citrus reamer it also costs more than most reamers. This style of juicer unintentionally heats the juice from friction and exposes the juice to significant amounts of air to cause oxidation; both of which causes large amounts of vitamin loss in the juice and greatly shortens the juice's shelf life.[citation needed]
A masticating juicer uses a single auger to compact and crush produce into smaller sections before squeezing out its juice along a static screen while the pulp is expelled through a separate outlet. Unlike centrifugal juicers, masticating juicers can juice wheatgrass and other leafy greens such as parsley. This style of juicer is also typically more expensive than a centrifugal juicer and slower, but is more efficient and produces higher yields of juice. The juice is also more nutritious and has a longer shelf life as the juice has not been exposed to as much heat or air.[citation needed]
Triturating juicers have twin augers to crush and press produce. While this style is typically the most expensive, it produces the highest yield of juice. The juice is also more nutritious and has a longer shelf life as the juice has been exposed to even less heat and air as the masticating juicers.[citation needed]
