Squeamishness
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Squeamishness (Squeamish) may refer to either a mild feeling of nausea or the quality of being easily disgusted or upset.
Causes
The sight of blood, insects, worms, slugs and sometimes the texture of fish can make someone feel squeamish. Sometimes certain words can unsettle people. The smell or sight of decayed or rotting flesh is generally upsetting to most people. Being in hospitals can generally upset people.
Symptoms
When someone is feeling squeamish they may twitch or shiver. Twitching is very rare when people feel squeamish. If something really unsettles them, people may lose consciousness (pass out). Before this they may feel dizzy. Some may display visible skin pallor.
Public reaction
Squeamishness is generally seen as a sign of mental or physical weakness. Those who display it in public are generally chided for it. They are generally urged not to join the medical profession or serve in the military, although it can be overcome.
